This snowman makes the perfect little present for a friend, a cute decoration for your Christmas tree and a great present topper.  He is 3 inches tall.  He is hand crocheted by me.  He has a winter hat and scarf on for those chilly days. His eyes are black beads that are sewn on. His nose is a chenille stem.

Duct Tape Craft Thursday: Trick or Treat Favor Bags

Good Morning Friends,

With Halloween approaching soon you may have a Halloween party that you are planning.  Today's craft would be perfect as a Halloween party favor bag which could be filled with yummy treats for your party guests to go home with. 

It doesn't take long to make them and you can make them all the same or you can make them with different patterns like I did.  Kids would have fun making them too.





Let's get started:
The materials you will need are in the photo below.

a small gift bag, duct tape, wire ribbon, a craft knife, and scissors

Step 1:  Cut the gift bag down to the size you want.  

Step 2:  Cover the whole bag with duct tape

Step 3:  Wrap the wire ribbon around the bag.  I like to use the wire ribbon because it is easy to mold around the bag.

Step 4:  Cut a strip of duct tape and attach it to the sides of the bag to hold down the ribbon.  

Step 5:  Cut a longer strip of duct tape (10 inches) and fold it in thirds to make the handle.

That's it!  I told you it was an easy craft. 

There are so many different kinds of Halloween ribbon designs.  I get mine at Dollar Tree or 50% off from craft stores when they mark down their Halloween section.

Happy Fall - Fall Decoration #1

Happy Fall Everyone!

  
This is the top of my kitchen hutch where I like to decorate for the seasons. This year I went through all my Fall decorations and got rid of stuff that I don't plan on using any more.  Some of the stuff I have had for 12 years or more.  After I put this display up, it looked like something was missing.  My son mentioned buying a scarecrow.  I had a different thought in mind.  I was going to make one.


I had my crochet hooks out already from another project I was working on so I decided to check my yarn stash to see if there were any colors I could use to make a crochet scarecrow.  These are the colors I picked out that I wanted to use.  

The hardest part was coming up with a crochet pattern that even resembled a scarecrow.  I know I wanted to make a girl scarecrow.  I wanted her to have coveralls on and I wanted her to have pigtails.

After a few days I had the basic pattern written.  The fun part was adding all the details.  I used a fringe technique to make her straw hands and feet.  I braided her hair for the pigtails.  I glued on tiny black beads for her eyes.  A heart shape button was used for her nose.  Black yarn was used for her mouth.  Then I just tied some orange yarn bows on her pigtails.  Here is what she looks like.

She is 10 inches tall.

  Now my Fall display on my hutch is complete.

Miniature Clay Pumpkins

Good Morning Friends,

Today I wanted to share with you a project I did last week.  

My son is getting ready to transform his Lionel train layout to a Fall theme and he asked me to make him some clay pumpkins.  The only request he made was that they had to look real.  When he saw the finished display when he got home from school he was so happy.  Now he has me making a whole pumpkin patch of miniature clay pumpkins.  I guess I will be busy this week making pumpkins. LOL!

Are you in the Fall mood yet?  Making these pumpkins definitely put me in a crafting mood for making some Fall crafts.

Duct Tape Scottie Dog Wallet

Here is the 20 card wallet I made with the new Scottie Dog duct tape pattern.

Here are the inside hidden pockets.  They are lined with the black duct tape. There are two of them.  The 20 card pockets are trimmed with the red duct tape.

The wallet has a Velcro closure

New Duct Tape Wallets I Made

Good Morning Friends,

I wanted to share with you two wallets I made over the weekend.

The first one is this Lego wallet.  

The second one is a Scooby Doo wallet.

Both of these wallets are bi-fold wallets.

Over the weekend I found this cute Scottie Dog pattern duct tape.  I am in the process of making one of my 20 card slot wallets with this pattern.  I will post a photo of it when I am done.

Tutorial on Duct Tape Coin Pouch

Good Morning Friends,

Here is the tutorial on the duct tape coin pouch.  I hope you find the directions easy to follow.

Step 1:  Decide the color and pattern for your coin pouch.  The front of mine is going to be the swirly pattern and the inside and back of the pouch is going to be the silver. I cut 4 pieces of duct tape 3 1/2 inches long. (see photo below)

Step 2: Then I overlap the swirly duct tape so my coin pouch is a height of 3 inches tall.  (see photo below) 

Step 3:  Then I turn the swirly piece over and cover the sticky side with the two other pieces of silver duct tape. (see photo below)

Step 4:  I cut 4 more pieces of duct tape for the back of the coin pouch.  I chose the silver color. I cut them 3 1/2 inches long. 

Repeat steps 2 and 3 with these pieces. 

Step 5: Here are my two completed pieces. The front cover and the back cover of my coin pouch. (see photo below)  

Step 6: Next, I cut the top piece of a ziploc bag.  I make sure it measures 3 1/2 inches long. (see photo below)

Step 7:  I separate the ziploc closure and cut the two pieces apart. (see photo below) 

Step 8:  I turn the front cover over and position one of the pieces of ziploc like in the photo below.   

Step 9:  Then I cut 4 strips of duck tape which will secure the ziploc closure and be my border around the coin pouch.  You may want a thicker border than mine.  In case you are wondering, my strips are 3 1/2 inches long with a width of 3/4 inches. (see photo below)

Step 10:  I position one of the strips from step 9 across the bottom of the ziploc piece. (see photo below)

Step 11: Then I stick it to the back of the front cover.  The ziploc is now in the inside of the coin pouch.  

Step 12:  I use another strip of duct tape and attach it to the top of the ziploc piece.  I fold the excess over to the front. You may want to trim it first depending on how thick you want your border to be on the front of your coin pouch.

I attach the other piece of ziploc to the back cover like I did to the front cover.  

Step 13:  I take the front cover and back cover and press them together where the ziploc pieces meet. (see photo below)

Step 14:  I cut thin strips of duct tape to close in the sides of my coin pouch. Again the thickness is up to you.  

That's it!  You are done.  You now have a coin pouch that will hold a lot of loose change.  The best part is the change won't fall out because it has the ziploc closure.

Duct Tape Coin Pouch

Good Morning Friends,

I have a duct tape craft that I did over the weekend that is super easy to make.  It is a duct tape coin pouch.  They take about 15 minutes to make once you know how to make them.  They even have a ziplock closure so your change won't fall out.

Here are the duct tape coin pouches I made over the weekend.

A Cover for Your Kindle or other Tablet

Good Morning Friends,

It is important to keep your tablets (Kindle, Nook, ipad, etc) protected.  They can easily get bumped around.

I came up with a way to make a duct tape cover case for them.  I made the first cover case for my Dad's Kindle.  He is a big Patriot's fan so I knew when I spotted the Patriot's duct tape that it would be something he would really like.

Here is the finished product.

This is the front.
It has a Velcro fastener.

This is the inside.
It has a pocket on the left side to hold papers.  On the right side it has two straps on the bottom to hold the tablet in place along with a strap on the top too.  

 

This is the back of the cover.
 

Here is the finished product with the Kindle in the case.  As you can see the straps do not interfere with the Kindle screen or the key board.

Just to let you know I will be starting to sell some of my products on my Etsy store, which will be opening very soon.  As soon as that happens I will let you know.

My Outdoor Bird Bath Sanctuary

What can you do with extra decorative stones and cement blocks?  

This is what I created:  An Outdoor Bird Bath Sanctuary

This project was not planned.  I wanted somewhere to place my bird bath that seemed out of place in other places I tried to put it.  It needed a special place of its own.

Hubby helped me build the cement wall.  These were left over from another section of the yard.  The rest of this design space took shape after the bird bath was placed.

We had extra decorative stone that was just sitting in a barrel and we put it around the bird bath.  I wanted flag stone to lead up to the bird bath and found some behind our shed.  Then I looked around the yard and moved a few of my decorative yard ornaments to this space.  There is a squirrel, turtle and garden gnome.  Then for color I put two shepherd hooks into the ground and purchased two hanging plants (New Guinea Impatiens) to add color to the space.  We already had the decorative stone edging so we moved the stone edging into the bird bath space to incorporate with the rest of the yard. 

I am very happy with how it turned out.  It has become my favorite spot in the backyard.  The birds seem to like it too. 

So if you have extra materials hanging around in your yard, you never know what you can create.  I did spot some white lattice behind the shed.  Now I wonder what I can create with it? LOL  That will be a project for another day.

Duct Tape Wallet Tutorial

Hi Friends,

Today I am happy to share with you a tutorial on how I make a basic duct tape wallet.  Some of you may already know how to make one, and others may not.  Duct tape wallets have come a long way since the plain gray color ones were first introduced.

There are many different styles of wallets you can make.  You just need to know the basic steps and then let your imagination take over.  I posted one of my other style wallets the other day.  It can hold 20 store reward cards, a checkbook and extra cash.  You can check that post out on this blog.  Also I posted photos of the same style wallet but in different colors on my Instagram.  Just look under HONEYSCREATIONS to find me.

Duct tape wallets are so fun to make that you may not want to stop making them.  They make great gifts and are easy enough for both adults and children to make them.  In fact when I was a Cub Scout leader in my son's den, I taught the boys how to make their own wallet and they loved the project.  My son made a Spongebob theme wallet and used it as a place to keep his allowance money.  Three years later he still has it.

With the new school year approaching kids can make their own homemade wallet to carry their lunch money to school.  There are so many colors and patterns to choose from.  Every time I go into a store I see a different theme duct tape.   



So let's get started with the tutorial.



Basic Duct Tape Wallet Instructions:

For this craft project you will need only a few materials.

  

Materials:

duct tape

a cutting tool

cutting mat

  In case you were wondering I use a Fiskars cutting mat that has a self-healing surface and number measurements.  You could also use a cutting board and ruler instead.

Part 1:  MAKING THE POCKETS

Start by cutting four pieces of duct tape 4 inches long.  These will be the pockets for your wallet.  I chose this cute cherry checkerboard pattern.

The pockets need a nice trim so cut two more pieces of duct tape 4 inches long in a color you want your trim to be.  I chose red for my pocket trim.  

  

Now cut those same pieces in half and they should look like this.  One strip for each pocket. 

  

To add the trim to the pocket, take one of the strips you just cut and place it on the edge of the pocket.  You can see in the photo below I am covering about 1/4 inch of the pocket.

Now fold the piece over so you have a nice straight trim showing on your pocket. Just like this.

Do this for all four pockets.  They should look like this.

That part was easy.

Now if you turn the pockets over you will notice some sticky part is still showing.  We need to cover them up with a 4 inch piece of duct tape. When you are done with that step they should look like this. 

Great!  The pockets are now finished.  Set them aside.

Part 2:  MAKING THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE WALLET

The basic wallets I make are usually 9"x 3 1/2".  So to make the front and back of the wallet we are going to need a piece with those dimensions.  To make a piece like that first start with a 9 inch piece of duct tape.

Then add another piece of duct tape to the other one overlapping a little until you reach a height of 3 1/2 inches.  You can see why I like my cutting mat with the number measurements.  It makes it so easy.  

Next, turn the piece over so the sticky side is facing up. 

Cover the sticky side with duct tape.

You now have the front of your wallet.

Make another piece exactly the same way for the back of your wallet.   

You will notice that the edges look rough.  Don't worry about that because our next step is making the edges look nice.  To do this cut a 9 inch piece of duct tape in your trim color. 

Then cut that piece in half.

Place one piece of duct tape on the top edge of the front of the wallet (like in the photo below) and the other piece on the top edge of the back of the wallet. 

Part #3:  Assembling the wallet

You have finally come to the part when you can add the pockets to your wallet.  Line up the first two pockets in the bottom left corner of your wallet. Leave about 1/4 inch between each pocket.

To hold your pockets in place you are going to cut a 4 inch piece of duct tape and cut it in half.  

Place one of the strips of duct tape on the side of the wallet to secure the pockets and fold over to the front of the wallet to make a nice trim. 

Do this exact step to the right side of the wallet. 

It is very important to double check to see if your pockets are big enough. If everything seems to fit then go ahead and add a strip of duct tape in between the pockets (the center of the wallet)

You are almost done.  Just one more step.  Add a piece of duct tape along the bottom edge of the wallet.  Attach it the same way as we did the other .    

When you fold that piece of duct tape over that will complete the trim on the front of your wallet.

Congratulations!  You have made your very own wallet.
